Pattaya is going family friendly

Seems unlikely doesn't it.

Although the trend looks to be gradually going in that direction. The Thai domestic tourism market is huge and the government is constantly looking to boost the numbers. This means an image change for Pattaya.

With Pattaya being the closest entertainment hotspot with a beach to Bangkok it's no surprise that they want to promote it. Many come to Pattaya for the seafood restaurants and the beaches and Koh Larn is often packed at the weekend. It's usually gridlocked when the music festivals are on.

What does this mean for expats and nomads? Probably not much other than seeing the adult entertainment industry being pushed back away from the tourist areas. It was going that way anyway with most bars moving up to Soi Buakhao and the two week millionaires staying in hotels like the Amber, Debua and Amethyst.

The Thaiger wrote a good article about this which prompted us to comment on it here.

We are seeing more of a trend of expats moving out over the hill to Pratumnak and more recently Jomtien is absolutely booming. Not to mention the dark side being very popular and garnering some of the best restaurants this editor has seen around the lake. The city constantly changes and hotspots move around which keeps things interesting.
